OVERVIEW<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thank you\u00a0for your interest in the Nephrology Fellowship Program of the Jacobi Medical Center.\u00a0 Jacobi Medical Center is part of the North Bronx Healthcare Network, whose mission is to provide quality, cost effective primary and acute care service to our community in a respectful, professional manner, regardless of ability to pay.\u00a0\u00a0 In the\u00a0Nephrology Division, we offer a comprehensive two year training program that comprises strong clinical nephrology complemented with patient-oriented research.<\/p>\n

Our program accepts two fellows each year. First-year fellows partition their time equally between the in-patient clinical services at Jacobi Medical Center and North Central Bronx Hospital.\u00a0 They also spend \u00bd day each week in a continuity ambulatory experience which continues into their second year.\u00a0 The second year is divided between research, transplant nephrology, and\u00a0electives. They will\u00a0 be introduced to the out-patient hemodialysis center at Pelham Parkway Dialysis Unit located on Jacobi campus. The diverse patient population and the large volume provide a great wealth of clinical experience.\u00a0 Patients and staff are also able to benefit from Jacobi\u2019s new state-of-the art in-patient and out-patient facilities.\u00a0 A combination of a hands-on learning environment, supervised autonomy, and uninterrupted didactic teaching make for an invaluable opportunity to learn Nephrology.<\/p>\n

FELLOWSHIP GOALS<\/strong><\/p>\n

The goal of the fellowship is to provide outstanding training in all aspects of nephrology in a nurturing academic environment during their in-patient and out-patient experience.\u00a0 For the in-patient exposure, fellows will be trained in the diagnosis and management of acute kidney injury, critical care nephrology, glomerular and tubulointerstitial kidney diseases, fluid-electrolyte disorders, hypertension, pregnancy, chronic and end-stage kidney disease, kidney stones, and various other renal disorders.\u00a0 They will also be adept in performing procedures listed below. For the out-patient experience, fellows will have abundant exposure in their weekly continuity clinic at Jacobi Medical Center, the renal clinic at North Central Bronx, and transplant clinics both at Jacobi Medical Center and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.\u00a0 In addition, the fellowship program is affiliated with\u00a0Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center for transplant nephrology which ensures an enriching learning experience in this field.The fellows also spend two weeks doing renal pathology in the world renowned pathology division at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center\u00a0in the second year.<\/p>\n
