EC question 3

Question #3

Nausea and vomiting are the major side effects of the estrogen
containing regimens.  This is more
pronounced with a high dose regimen.
There is less nausea and vomiting with the progestin regimen.  Nausea can be prevented in some patients with
meclizine.  Menstrual disruption is also
described.  There is felt to be little
harm to the fetus in the event of unsuccessful pregnancy prevention.  The IUD’s carry with them the risk of heavy
menstrual bleeding, cramping, PID and uterine perforation.  They may also be dislodged.
