– collates information from lots of websites. From the NIH and
its divisions, private foundations like Mayo, and    from disease interest groups
like the American Diabetes Associaion.
–  contains disease specific on-line patient tutorials
–  special “easy to read” level brochures and printouts

–  some Spanish

UpToDate
Patient Information – free site published by UpToDate

– search by disease or condition
– fairly high level of intelligence and reading skill required
– good pictures of exercises & such
– links to relevant NIH pages and other disease specific organizatons


Micromedex Care Notes

– a subscription service available at Jacobi or by paid subscription

– search by disease
– basic reading level, fill-in-the-blanks feature to customize for particular
patients
– everything available in English or Spanish

FamilyDoctor.org – a free site put together by
American Academy of Family Physicians

– searchable by topic
– good pictures
– English and Spanish for most topics
– usually included in Medlineplus results


JAMA Patient Pages
– on-line archive of all the patient pages published in Journal of the
American Medical Association

– Searching a bit cumbersome; have to to go Advanced Search
– Not comprehensive, more an extensive colllection of random topics
– Usually included in Medlineplus results
