At times, you will need to send patient’s their prescriptions in between appointments.
Common scenarios:
A) Lab comes back abnormal and you want to send patient a prescription
B) You forgot to give patient a prescription
There are several options available to get the patient their prescriptions:
1) Walk-in Clinic: Print and have attending sign prescription, put prescription in labelled envelope and
and give it to Walk-in nurse (4A nurse). Call patient and let them know to come to 4A and pick it up.
2) Mail Prescription: Find patient’s address (call patient and ask or check on Qmed “Face Sheet”), put printed and signed prescription in Jacobi envelope, and place envelope in black wire basket in Room 4W-6 (circled in red in picture below). Don’t worry about the stamp, someone will take care of that.
3) Call Pharmacy: Find out patient’s pharmacy, call up and speak to pharmacist. You may need license number or NPI, so have any DT/Attending help you with this.
