vaginitis case 1 answer 3

VAGINITIS CASE 1

ANSWERS

What will you be looking for on exam?

  • Look at the external genitalia to rule
out ulcerations, vesicles and skin lesions that might account for the
    complaint of itching.

  • Look to see if there actually is discharge
and note the color and consistency.  Thin whitish-grayish is
characteristic of BV, frothy yellow-green is characteristic of trich, and
curdy white is characteristic of candida.

  • Check the vaginal mucosa.  If
it’s delicate and bleeds easily, this suggests atrophic vaginitis.

  • Check the cervix for discharge coming
from the os (suggesting trich or PID)

  • Bimanual – make sure there’s only
minimal cervical motion tenderness, uterine tenderness, and adnexal
    tenderness.
