DEAR APPLICANTS

Hospital staff in hallway, top viewWe welcome your interest in the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Jacobi Medical Center. We are a very diverse program and at the same time a tightly knit family, just like our patients. We have a total of 100 residents offering 30 categorical positions each year and 10 preliminary PGY-1 positions.  Each PGY level has a total of 2 Sabbath observer (SO) positions available for categorical residents (unfortunately this is not available for our preliminary year positions).

In order to maintain our standards of excellence here at Jacobi, applicants should score greater than a 220 on Step 1 and greater than 230 on Step 2 CK and must pass Step 2CS (all exams must be passed on the first attempt). While these criteria are not set in stone, they strongly influence our decisions.

All applications are accepted exclusively through ERAS and the match will be exclusively through the NRMP program. We do not offer the option to “pre-match” at our program. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed until all documents are uploaded to ERAS. We suggest that you get all required documents in to ERAS as soon as possible in order to ensure that your file is reviewed as early in the season as possible.

The required documents include:

  • Current USMLE scores
  • Curriculum vitae (CV)
  • Personal statement
  • 3-4 letters of recommendation
  • Medical school transcript
  • MSPE from your medical school

International Medical Graduates requesting H-1 and J-1 visas are considered. Please note however, that applicants with H-1 visas must pass USMLE Step 3 prior to match day or we will need to apply for a J1 visa to ensure an on time residency start. Please click here for more details on Visa sponsorship.

We receive approximately 5,000 applications each year.  Due to the large volume of applications that we review, it is not always possible for us to contact all applicants immediately. We usually interview about 8% of these applicants. Please do not call with questions or to ask about the status of your application. If you are selected for an interview, we will contact you.

Thank you for your interest in our program and best of luck with your residency applications!
