Case Three

Mr. and Mrs. Paseante are your patients.  He is a 45 year-old man with hypertension, average BP of 155/95, who would like to try non-pharmacologic treatment.  She is also 45, has an average BP of 135/85, and a 4+ family history of hypertension.  She would like to know if there’s anything she can do to prevent hypertension.

Does exercise lower the risk of subsequent hypertension in normotensive patients?


What are the chances that he’ll be able to lower his blood pressure with an exercise program?
