Jacobi IM Residency

FAQs

Application Cycle

We have 34 PGY-1 positions available for every NRMP Match cycle.

We have a robust residency program with 102 residents across all three years.

No, we do not offer any Preliminary positions in our program.

You should apply only to the tracks that align best with your career goals or personal preferences. Applying to multiple tracks does not increase your chances.

If our program is amongst your top choices, signaling will absolutely highlight your interest. We prioritize reviewing applicants who signal us and will almost exclusively consider those who do. Signaling is a critical step in demonstrating your strong commitment to joining our program.

We offer a Sabbath Observer (SO) track designed to support residents who observe a weekly ‘day of rest’ on Saturday based on their religious beliefs. This track ensures that these residents have their weekly day off scheduled on Saturdays, with no long shifts assigned on Friday nights.

Applicants must score 240 or greater on USMLE Step 2 CK to be considered for an interview.

Yes, U.S. clinical experience (USCE) is strongly recommended for all International Medical Graduates (IMGs) to help familiarize themselves with the U.S. healthcare system and obtain U.S.-based letters of recommendation (LORs). We give preference to hands-on experiences such as clerkships or sub-internships, followed by externships, and then observerships. Please note that virtual rotations are not considered as USCE.

While U.S.-based letters of recommendation (LORs) are preferred, we also consider strong LORs from non-U.S. physicians, especially if they highlight your clinical skills, professionalism, and potential for success in our program. However, at least one LOR must be from a U.S.-based physician with whom you have worked directly in a U.S. clinical setting.

While there is no strict cutoff, applicants who have graduated more than 5 years ago are encouraged to demonstrate ongoing clinical involvement to maintain competitiveness.

To apply to our program, please submit your application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). For a comprehensive list of required documents and application details, refer to our Application Information page. Please note, do not email the Program Director directly, as we are unable to attend to individual emails. Please reach out to our Program Coordinator for any queries.

No, we do not offer pre-match positions. Our program only participates in the NRMP Match process.

Miscellaneous

Most residents live in nearby neighborhoods for convenience, with many residing within a 5 to 10-minute walking distance from the hospital. Additionally, there is now a shuttle service available that takes residents into the community after hours.

No. Unfortunately, the hospital does not provide on-campus housing or subsidized housing options.

Rent prices around the hospital vary depending on the neighborhood. Generally, you can expect to pay between $1,000 and $1,600 for a studio apartment, and between $1,600 and $2,500 for a one-bedroom apartment in the neighborhood surrounding the campus.

Our patient population is diverse, encompassing a significant number of underserved and multicultural communities, which provides rich clinical exposure. However, working with this population can be challenging due to various socioeconomic factors, substance abuse, and other related issues, making it a demanding environment that may not be suitable for everyone.

Yes, we provide training in Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) as part of our hands-on clinical curriculum. Learn more about it here.
