Healthcare Administration Scholars Program (HASP) is a 20-month long program that aims to train residents in healthcare economics, hospital administration, operations management, quality and safety, inter-professional education, healthcare information systems, medical advocacy, and leadership. The HASP at NYC Health+Hospitals/Jacobi is a great opportunity to enhance your skills and step into leadership roles in the healthcare system.

About the Program

HASP is a comprehensive, longitudinal program tailored for PGY2 and above residents. Over the course of 20 months, participants will gain in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in healthcare administration. The program includes:

  • Bimonthly Didactic Sessions: Learn directly from hospital and system leadership in interactive 3-hour sessions, focusing on topics like Hospital Administration, Quality Management, Patient Safety, Information Technology, Healthcare Economics, and Professional Development.
  • Mentorship with Hospital Leadership: Develop relationships with seasoned healthcare leaders who will guide you through real-world challenges.
  • Quality Improvement Projects: Lead a substantial quality improvement or patient safety project at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, applying what you’ve learned to create measurable improvements in patient care.

How Does It Work?

Accepted participants will attend twice-monthly sessions over 20 months, totaling 40 sessions. These will cover a wide range of healthcare administration topics, presented by experts in the field. Participants will also have time dedicated to leading their own Quality Improvement project, with mentorship and support from hospital leadership.

Application Process

  • Applications are due at the beginning of the PGY-2 year.
  • All interested candidates must acquire the support of their Program Director to apply.
  • A formal application, along with a CV and Personal Statement, is required.
  • The status of the application will be decided by the Office of Quality and Safety.
  • The program begins in September of your PGY-2 year, with Graduation held in May of your PGY-3 year.
  • Each year, 2-3 applicants from the Internal Medicine Residency Program are accepted into HASP.
