Jacobi IM Residency

Stay Hungry.
Stay Humble.

Meet our Chairman

Dear applicant,

On behalf of the Department of Medicine at Jacobi Medical Center, I am delighted to learn of your interest in our Internal Medicine Residency Training Program. As Chairman, I view the Residency Program as critical to the department’s mission. In many respects, the quality of a Department of Medicine is directly reflected by the quality of its residency. We, therefore, continue to invest considerable time and effort in developing and nurturing our program.

At Jacobi, every effort is made to empower you — the resident — to achieve your individual learning goals. Our teaching institution is an ultra-modern patient care facility with state-of the art equipment and fully electronic medical records. We serve an extraordinarily diverse urban patient population. We have a distinguished teaching faculty who hold academic appointments at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Opportunities to participate in clinical or basic laboratory research abound. There is a comprehensive educational schedule including daily morning reports, attending rounds, board review, noon conferences and intern-specific conferences. Our institution is warm and caring, and unequivocally committed to safe, effective, efficient, comprehensive evidence-based medical care…truly notable in this era of “corporate” medicine. We are very much concerned about and supportive of our trainees. We are interested in your professional and career development, but we also want you to have a life outside of the hospital. Our web pages provide an in-depth overview of the residency program offered by our department. I encourage you to review them carefully and to plan to visit our training program to meet with us.

Sincerely,

Robert Faillace, M.D., ScM
Department Chair, Department of Medicine, Jacobi Medical Center
Professor of Medicine, Albert Einstein College of Medicine

Meet our Program Director

Dear applicant,

I would like to personally take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in the Internal Medicine Residency at Jacobi Medical Center. I know the interview road ahead of you is long, and you will see many excellent institutions along your journey. Here, at Jacobi Medical Center, a University program, the educational opportunities are vast. Jacobi, being a public hospital, offers a wide variety of cases from which to learn. This fabulous combination offers the best in educational settings. Additionally, our residents have access to all of the research facilities of Albert Einstein College of Medicine directly across the street, where investigators are constantly involved in both basic science, clinical, and translational research.

Our broad range of research opportunities, combined with nationally recognized clinical excellence, are reasons why we annually match an incredible portion of our housestaff to competitive fellowship positions.

We are proud to announce that our program recently received full accreditation with zero citations from the ACGME – the best possible outcome! We feel that this reflects our dedication to providing a healthy and academically strong training environment for our housestaff. At Jacobi Medical Center you are expected to excel, and you are given the means to do so. I look forward to meeting you over the course of the next interview season.

Sincerely,

Andrew Gutwein, M.D., F.A.C.P.
