A graduate of the Washington University School of Medicine (St. Louis), Dr Reed was an intern, resident and hematology fellow at the Jacobi Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Bronx, N.Y.).
He was a National Science Foundation Scholar at Hammersmith Hospital and the Royal Postgraduate School of Medicine (London, U.K.). He served two years in the Blood Transfusion Laboratory of the U. S. Army Medical Research Laboratory (Ft. Knox, KY). He then joined the faculty practice group at the Hospital of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. For many years, Dr Reed was in the private practice of Hematology and Medical Oncology, while serving as Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He returned to a fulltime academic teaching position in 2006, serving as the Site Director for the Einstein/Montefiore Hematology/Oncology Fellowship program at Jacobi Medical Center (Bronx, N.Y.).
Dr Reed is active in the American Society of Hematology, having served on the Clinical Practice and the Membership Committees. He is currently the Chairman of the Membership Committee and a member of the Board of Directors of the N. Y. State Society of Medical Oncologists and Hematologists. His research interests and scientific publications have been principally in the areas of hemoglobinopathies and bone marrow technology.
