Dr. Anjali Acharya is the director of the Nephology Fellowship Program at Jacobi Medical Center. She is a Professor of Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Acharya earned her MBBS from Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, India. She then completed her residency training at Montefiore Medical Center. Following this she was recruited to the Nephrology Fellowship Program at Montefiore/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Upon completion of her fellowship she joined the Nephrology Division at Jacobi in 1999. Dr. Acharya has been instrumental in starting the fellowship program at Jacobi Medical Center. She has been the program director since the inception of the program in 2005. She has been a respected mentor to faculty, fellows, residents and medical students.
Dr. Acharya is foremost a clinician who enjoys working with fellows, residents and medical students, at the bedside. She is a recipient of many teaching awards and is a member of the honorable Davidoff Society. In addition to her clinical work, she actively participates in clinical and translational research at the local, regional and national level. Her research interests are acute kidney injury, kidney disease in pregnancy, preeclampsia and dialysis vascular access. She is a volunteer for the KEEP program of the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) and is a member on the advisory board of the NKF.
